Your DC motors, generators and Traction motors are in the hands of experts at M&C, based on over 50 years’ experience in the industry. Specialised repair services include:
- Dobeycan class H polyester insulation system that offers the following advantages:
- increased mechanical strength and flexibilit
- Insulation materials and significant amounts of copper stock in order to reduce turn around time on repairs.
- Verification of insulation systems and optimisation.
- Vacuum Pressure Impregnate (VPI) armatures, fields and inter pole coils using a Polyester based resin specifically designed for DC motors.
- Re-engineering of existing coil designs to accommodate the latest insulation technology and deliver improved motor performance.
- 600 kW full mechanical load test using an eddy current dynamometer, enabling us to determine the motor's exact performance under various load conditions.
- Black Band Test.
- Drop test.
- Comparator test.
- Polarity test

Listed hereunder are but a few of the DC motors and DC generators that M&C have repaired over more than 50 years in the armature winding industry.
| 2125 hp, 620V, 78 rpm, Armature, Metropolitan Vickers, for Wesizwe Platinum via Dowding, Reynard and Associates (DRA) |
This is one of three armatures that M&C is fully rewinding and refurbishing.
The scope of work include the complete rewind of these huge armatures as well as the refurbishment of the commutators.. |

Our expertly trained armature winder artisans (trained in the Savcio training centre) re-insulate the equaliser ring of this DC motor. |

One of our expert armature winders is doing the final inspection on the competed armature rewind. This photo gives a perspective as to the size of this armature.. |

The non-connection end of the new armature winding also clearly show the equalizer circuit.
|

The commutator side of the new armature winding shows the carefully soldered connection between the armature windings and the risers of the refurbished commutator. |

The replacement of the commutator will be very expensive and the lead time would be very long. M&C fully refurbished this commutator that is more than 50 years old. |

The photo shows the completed armature after the armature rewind and commutator refurbishment as well as other minor mechanical repairs. |
