40 Ton Lathe

Marthinusen & Coutts (M&C), a division of ACTOM (Pty) Ltd, recently acquired a large 40 ton numerically controlled lathe to cater for precision machining of the following critical components:

  • Large rotating work pieces such as generator rotors, turbines, large fans, blowers, large rotor shafts and rotor journals
  • Work pieces up to 40 tons
  • 10 meters between centres
  • 3.2 meters swing
  • This is one of the largest lathes on the continent
  • Upgraded from semi-automatic to a high precision numerically controlled machine.

The 40 ton lathe has been installed at M&C’s dedicated power generation equipment repair and refurbishment facility in Benoni and is being used to machine rotors and other work pieces of a wide range of large electrical and mechanical rotating equipment.

With this service now offered in-house, M&C and ACTOM Turbo Machines can assist customers with machining of all large critical, precision rotating mechanical equipment.
